1 Dead in Harris County Auto Accident on FM 2920 near Hegar Road

HARRIS COUNTY, TX (June 14, 2026) – Saturday afternoon, a 2-year-old child died in a devastating head-on crash on FM 2920 near Hegar Road.

The incident happened in the 2600 block of FM 2920 near Hegar Road.

According to Ed Gonzalez, a U-Haul driver traveling westbound, allegedly fell asleep at the wheel and crossed into oncoming traffic.

Investigators said a mother driving a Jeep with her two children swerved to avoid a head-on collision with the box truck and entered a ditch.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said a toddler was pronounced dead at the scene. The mother and her 8-month-old child were transported to a hospital with minor injuries.

Gonzalez said there were no signs of intoxication involved in the incident. Authorities have not indicated whether any charges are expected as the investigation continues.
