Police Investigate Crash on Highway 99 and Highway 180
FRESNO, CA (May 7, 2026)— A California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer suffered injuries Thursday evening after a rear-end crash on Highway 99 in Fresno.
CHP said the crash happened near the southbound Highway 99 and Highway 180 interchange.
According to investigators, the motorcycle officer was slowing down to assist a disabled vehicle on the side of the road when another vehicle approached from behind and struck him. The impact threw the officer off his motorcycle.
Emergency responders transported the officer to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver who struck the officer remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
Officials have not confirmed whether DUI played a role in the crash.
The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the collision.
Injured in a Rear-End Motorcycle Crash? Sweet Lawyers Can Help
Rear-end crashes involving motorcycles can cause serious injuries, even when the victim is wearing protective gear and the collision happens at a reduced speed.
Motorcyclists have far less protection than occupants of passenger vehicles, and a sudden impact from behind can throw a rider from the bike, causing painful injuries, hospitalization, emotional distress, and time away from work.
At Sweet Lawyers, we understand how traumatic motorcycle accidents can be for injured riders and their families. Whether the injured person is a civilian rider, first responder, or law enforcement officer, a crash caused by another driver can create immediate concerns about medical care, recovery, lost income, and insurance claims.
Even injuries initially described as non-life-threatening may still require follow-up treatment, therapy, and careful documentation.
Rear-end collisions often raise important questions about driver attention, following distance, speed, distraction, impairment, and roadway conditions.
When a driver strikes a motorcycle from behind, investigators may review police reports, vehicle damage, witness statements, dash camera footage, traffic conditions, medical records, and any available surveillance video to determine what happened.
Sweet Lawyers helps injured accident victims protect their rights after serious crashes. Our team can assist with communicating with insurance companies, reviewing available evidence, and helping clients understand their options for pursuing compensation.
Depending on the circumstances, injured victims may be able to seek recovery for medical expenses, lost wages, motorcycle damage, pain and suffering, rehabilitation costs, and other accident-related losses.
Insurance companies may attempt to minimize the impact of a crash, especially when injuries are not classified as life-threatening.
Having experienced legal guidance can help ensure your injuries, financial losses, and long-term recovery needs are taken seriously.
