Cody Howell Dies in National Trails Highway Crash [San Bernardino County, CA]

San Bernardino County, CA (May 14, 2025) — 19-year-old Cody Howell of Oro Grande lost his life Wednesday morning following a head-on collision along National Trails Highway in San Bernardino County.

Authorities identified the victim as Howell, a recent graduate of Riverside Preparatory High School. The crash occurred around 6:56 a.m. west of Robinson Ranch Road.

Investigators said Howell was driving a Chevrolet Suburban when it collided head-on with a Ram 2500 pickup truck. Emergency crews responded to the scene and pronounced Howell dead shortly after the crash.

Firefighters extricated a female passenger from the Suburban before transporting her to St. Mary Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Rescue crews also freed the driver of the Ram pickup, who was airlifted to Victor Valley Global Medical Center for treatment.

The collision forced authorities to shut down a portion of National Trails Highway for several hours while investigators examined the scene.

The California Highway Patrol Victorville Area Office continues to investigate the cause of the fatal crash.
