Lake Samish, WA (July 24, 2026) — 51-year-old Cole Hilton of Everson was killed in a frightening crash on North Lake Samish Drive.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help identifying a bicyclist who may have information about a fatal cycling incident that occurred on July 11 near Lake Samish.

Deputies responded around 1:40 p.m. to the area of North Lake Samish Drive and Prescott Lane after receiving reports of an unconscious and injured bicyclist. Emergency responders treated the victim before transporting him to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center, where he later died.

The victim was identified as Hilton. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Security footage from a nearby business captured another bicyclist traveling in the same direction just seconds before Hilton.
