Alejandro Covarrubias Killed in Late-Night Hit-and-Run on I-5 in Castaic
Castaic, CA (March 2, 2026) — Alejandro Covarrubias, a 22-year-old man, lost his life Friday night after a hit-and-run collision on the Golden State (5) Freeway in Castaic.
According to authorities, the crash happened around 11:22 p.m. near the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 at the Lake Hughes Road off-ramp.
Investigators said a white semi-truck struck a white Toyota Corolla before the truck’s driver fled the scene without stopping to help.
Covarrubias suffered fatal blunt force injuries and died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Office of Medical Examiner.
Officers with the California Highway Patrol temporarily closed the Lake Hughes Road off-ramp as they examined evidence and worked to identify the hit-and-run driver. The investigation remains ongoing.
