High-Speed Collision Near Boston Harbor Injures Jack Edwards [Olympia, WA]

Olympia, WA (May 6, 2025) — Authorities arrested a boater Sunday after a high-speed collision near Boston Harbor in Washington left 21-year-old Jack Edwards of Olympia, with life-altering injuries.

Deputies with the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office responded to the waterway north of Olympia and found a severely injured victim in the water. Reports say that Edwards suffered multiple broken bones, a collapsed lung, and deep lacerations.

Investigators determined that a 25-foot motorboat traveling at an estimated 35 to 45 mph struck a disabled 10-foot vessel carrying five people. The smaller boat had engine trouble and was stranded when witnesses tried to warn the approaching operator, who failed to slow down.

The impact threw Edwards into the water, and the larger boat ran over him, causing catastrophic injuries. The operator initially fled the scene before returning a short time later.

Nearby boaters rushed in to help and kept Edwards afloat until rescuers transported him to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for emergency care. Authorities said he continues to undergo treatment for both physical injuries and trauma from the incident.

Detectives gathered witness statements and video evidence indicating reckless operation. Based on their findings, deputies arrested the operator on suspicion of assault by watercraft.
