Long Beach, CA (December 21, 2025) — A woman has died Thursday afternoon after sustaining critical injuries in a horrific 2-vehicle collision on Gerald Desmond Bridge.

According to authorities, the crash occurred around 1:25 p.m. on the southbound lanes near Pier D.

Authorities reported that a silver SUV overturned onto its side following the impact, leaving the woman trapped inside the vehicle.

Emergency crews responded to the scene, and traffic was diverted to the Long Beach International Gateway Bridge while crews worked to clear the roadway. The bridge reopened later that afternoon.

The woman was transported to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The California Highway Patrol received confirmation of her death at approximately 3:54 a.m. Friday. Officials have not released her identity, pending notification of next of kin.
