Wrong-Way Collision on Highway 72 Under Investigation [Salem, MO]

Salem, MO (December 12, 2025) — A head-on collision on Highway 72 near Salem left two people dead and three others critically injured Wednesday morning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2017 Chevrolet Spark, traveling eastbound, crossed the center line around 7:16 a.m. and struck a 2015 Dodge Charger head-on. The 60-year-old male driver of the Chevrolet died at the scene.

The Dodge, carrying a 31-year-old woman and two young children—a 1-year-old and an infant under one—suffered critical injuries. All three were transported to Salem Memorial Hospital, where the infant later died at 8:21 a.m.

Authorities confirmed all occupants of the Dodge were wearing seat belts, while the Chevrolet driver was not.
