Hit-and-Run Collision on Interstate 90 Results in Injuries [Ritzville, WA]

Three Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash on Interstate 90 Near Ritzville

Ritzville, WA (July 9, 2026) — On Tuesday night, three people were injured in a hit-and-run collision on Interstate 90, about 22 miles west of Ritzville, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The crash happened around 10:24 p.m. near milepost 200. Investigators said an eastbound vehicle struck a deer and came to a stop in the left lane. A second eastbound vehicle then collided with the disabled vehicle and came to rest, partially blocking both lanes.

Shortly afterward, a third eastbound vehicle struck the second vehicle in the right lane and fled the scene without stopping.

Authorities reported that the driver of the first vehicle sustained minor injuries but did not require hospitalization. The driver of the second vehicle and a 14-year-old passenger were taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center for treatment.

Officials said both involved vehicles—a 2024 Volkswagen and a 2016 Honda CR-V—were declared total losses and towed from the scene. Investigators reported no fatalities, and they do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.

Hit-and-Run is a Crime

A hit-and-run is a deadly offense that endangers lives and robs victims of their right to assistance. If you’re in an accident, do not leave the scene and check for injuries, 911 should be called immediately. Leaving can lead to criminal charges, even if the crash appears to be minor. As a driver, own it — someone’s life could hang in the balance.

If you observe a hit-and-run, report it and give any information you can. Assistance to law enforcement can really make a difference. Each of us can do our part to drive responsibly and with integrity, and to get everyone the help they need after a crash.

If you’re involved in a crash, remain at the scene and contact emergency services immediately. Leaving the scene is illegal and can delay medical assistance for those who are injured. Stay alert for wildlife, especially when driving at night, to help reduce the risk of serious collisions.

Steps to Take When You’ve Been in a Car Accident

If you get into a traffic accident, it can be a frightening situation and many people do not know what to do afterwards, which may have a big impact on your safety as well as your rights.

First, assess yourself and others for injuries. If anyone is hurt, call 911 immediately. If you can move your vehicle, do so in a safe location, and put on your hazard lights to warn other drivers. Exchange details with the other driver such as names, numbers, insurance company information, and license plate numbers. (And if there are witnesses nearby, try to get their information, too.)

Photograph the scene, damage to the vehicles and any injuries. If the damage appears to be minor, document everything anyway.

Then get medical care — even if you feel fine. Some injuries can have a delayed presentation. Lastly, reach out to a seasoned personal injury lawyer, such as Sweet Lawyers. They’ll explain your legal rights and navigate the insurance claims process, so you can focus on what’s most important.

Those minutes after a crash are critical. Staying calm, acting swiftly and figuring out what kind of aid is available could help protect your health, your finances and your future.
