81-Year-Old Driver Killed in Head-On Crash on Key Peninsula Highway in Pierce County
Pierce County, WA (May 24, 2025) — An 81-year-old man died Friday morning following a head-on collision on Key Peninsula Highway in Pierce County, authorities said.
The crash happened around 8:44 a.m. in the 3700 block of Key Peninsula Highway and involved a pickup truck and a smaller SUV.
According to investigators, the pickup crossed out of its lane, prompting the SUV driver, a 75-year-old man, to take evasive action. The vehicles ultimately collided head-on.
Emergency crews pronounced the pickup driver dead at the scene. Responders transported the SUV driver to a hospital with critical injuries. Officials later said his current condition remains unknown.
Authorities have not determined why the pickup left its lane, and investigators are still examining whether a medical emergency or another factor contributed to the crash.
Traffic along the highway was reduced to one lane while crews responded to the scene.
Sweet Lawyers extends heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the man who lost his life in this tragic collision. We also hope for the recovery of the injured victim as authorities continue investigating the crash.
When a Fatal Accident Changes Life Forever
Losing a loved one in a sudden crash is devastating. The grief can feel overwhelming, and for many families, that emotional pain is compounded by unexpected financial pressures—medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income or support your loved one once provided.
In moments like these, it’s important to know that you are not alone. A wrongful death claim can help families find a sense of justice and financial stability after an unimaginable loss. While no legal action can ever replace the person you’ve lost, it can provide accountability and help protect your family’s future.
Wrongful death claims can help families recover compensation for:
- Funeral and burial expenses
- Medical costs related to final care
- Lost income and future financial support
- Loss of companionship and emotional suffering
Beyond financial relief, pursuing a claim is often about accountability. Whether a crash was caused by distracted driving, speeding, or another form of negligence, holding the responsible party accountable can help bring closure and reduce the risk of similar tragedies happening to others.
