Shocking Collision on Missouri Route 39 Claims a Life

Mount Vernon Man Killed, Woman Seriously Hurt in Lawrence County Head-On Crash

Lawrence County, MO (June 6, 2025) — A 36-year-old Mount Vernon man lost his life, and a 32-year-old Greenfield woman suffered serious injuries in a head-on collision on Missouri Route 39 early Friday morning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before 2 a.m. on Missouri Route 39, about one mile south of Miller.

Investigators said the Mount Vernon man was driving an SUV southbound when the vehicle crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a car driven by the Greenfield woman.

The SUV driver died at the scene. Emergency responders transported the injured woman to Mercy Hospital in Springfield for treatment of serious injuries.

The fatal crash marked Troop D’s 54th traffic-related death of 2026. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
