Two Airlifted After Serious Motorcycle Crash in Yuma
Yuma, AZ (June 19, 2025) — Two 18-year-olds suffered life-threatening injuries after a motorcycle collision on South Mary Avenue late on June 15.
According to the Yuma Police Department, officers responded around 11:21 p.m. to the area of South Mary Avenue and East 24th Street following a collision involving a motorcycle and a passenger car.
Investigators said an 18-year-old man was operating a 2009 Harley-Davidson motorcycle with an 18-year-old woman riding as a passenger. The motorcycle was traveling eastbound on East 24th Street when it collided with a 2026 Honda Civic driven by a 21-year-old woman who was turning left onto Mary Avenue.
Emergency crews transported both motorcycle occupants by air to a Phoenix hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
Police believe speed may have contributed to the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
Driving defensively is one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of road accidents. Staying alert, keeping a safe following distance, and always expecting the unexpected can help protect you and everyone around you. Avoid distractions like texting, follow posted speed limits, use your turn signals, and stay watchful for pedestrians and cyclists. A cautious, proactive approach behind the wheel keeps roads safer for all.
Even familiar roads can become dangerous when traffic patterns, weather, or visibility change. Slowing down and staying focused can prevent serious injuries and save lives on roadways. Driving smart and staying aware makes a real difference.
Speeding significantly increases the risk of severe crashes, especially for motorcyclists who have less protection than occupants of passenger vehicles. Drivers and riders should follow speed limits and remain vigilant at intersections to help prevent serious injuries.
What To Do Following a Motorcycle Crash
The first thing you should do when a motorcycle crash occurs is to ensure you’re not in harm’s way. Assess your injuries and any victims’ injuries and dial 911 as soon as possible. Do not move anyone who is seriously injured unless they are in danger, such as from fire or traffic. If it can be done safely, move vehicles out of the road, turn off engines to avoid further accidents. After calling for assistance, photograph the are, your injuries and setup for any damaged parts or equipment.
After you have been seen by medical professionals, you will want to contact a personal injury lawyer if you sustained injuries. Motorcycle crashes frequently result in expensive medical bills, lost wages, and pain long into the future. A personal injury attorney can explain your rights, negotiate with insurance companies, and work to secure fair compensation for you.
Don’t forget to obtain contact and insurance information from witnesses. If you can provide this to your lawyer, it will be helpful evidence for the trial. A lawyer can help make recovery easier by acting quickly and supporting clients from the outset.
