79-Year-Old Woman Killed in Pedestrian Crash on SR-162 in Orting

Orting, WA (November 30, 2025) — On Friday evening, a 79-year-old Puyallup woman died after a tragic collision on State Route 162.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision happened around 5:01 p.m. on State Route 162 near 136th Street East.

Reports say that a vehicle struck the victim as the woman attempted to cross from the eastbound lane toward the westbound side. The eastbound vehicle hit her, and she died at the scene.

Troopers, collision investigators, and Orting police responded, temporarily shutting down both directions of SR 162. Traffic was rerouted at multiple points while investigators examined the scene. The roadway remained blocked for nearly three hours before reopening.

Authorities are still determining whether impairment played a role.
