Two-Vehicle Collision on State Route 86 Kills Passenger [Salton City, CA]

Salton City, CA (May 14, 2025) — On Monday night, one person died and three others suffered injuries following a two-vehicle collision on State Route 86 near Norm Niver Road in Salton City.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened just before 8:30 p.m. south of Red Earth Casino. Investigators said a Honda Accord entered the path of a southbound 2007 Kia Spectra traveling about 70 mph on SR-86.

The Kia struck the left side of the Honda, causing both vehicles to spin out before stopping on the roadway.

A 50-year-old passenger in the Honda was ejected during the crash and died at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity.

The Honda driver and another passenger suffered major injuries and were transported to Desert Regional Medical Center. The Kia driver sustained moderate injuries.

Investigators determined the Honda passengers were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Officials closed lanes in the area for several hours while crews investigated and cleared the scene.
