Driver Killed, Woman Injured in Northeast Houston Head-On Crash

Houston, TX (July 28, 2026) — Late Sunday evening, a driver died, and another motorist suffered injuries after a head-on collision on Tidwell Road in northeast Houston. Authorities believe speed and possible alcohol involvement may have contributed to the crash.

The Houston Police Department reported that the crash happened shortly after 11 p.m. on Tidwell Road. Investigators determined that a Hyundai Sonata crossed the center line and struck an oncoming GMC pickup truck.

Emergency responders transported the Sonata driver to a nearby hospital, where he later died. The pickup truck driver also went to the hospital and underwent surgery. She remains in stable condition.

Police said excessive speed appears to have played a role in the collision and are investigating whether alcohol impairment was also a contributing factor. The pickup truck driver showed no indications of intoxication.
