41-Year-Old Man Fatally Struck on Highway 79 in Winchester

Winchester, CA (August 29, 2025) Early Thursday morning, authorities identified 41-year-old Corey Burnham of Hemet as the man killed in a pedestrian crash on Highway 79.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened shortly after 2 a.m. on the northbound lanes near Stetson Avenue.

Reports say that a 21-year-old man driving a Honda Accord was unable to avoid Burnham and struck him on the two-lane roadway.

Paramedics from the Riverside County Fire Department arrived within minutes but pronounced Burnham dead at the scene. The driver stopped immediately, called 911, and cooperated with investigators. Officials said impairment and speed do not appear to have contributed to the crash.

The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
