Driver Arrested After Red-Light Crash Kills Man in Aurora

Aurora, CO (November 17, 2025) — 28-year-old man died early Saturday after 41-year-old Cornelius Thomas of Aurora, allegedly sped through a red light and crashed into his vehicle at East Jewell Avenue and South Peoria Street in Aurora.

Police say the collision happened just after 2 a.m. Investigators found that the driver of a Chevy Tahoe, identified as Thomas, was traveling east on Jewell Avenue when he ran the red light and struck a Chevy Cruze heading north on Peoria Street.

The driver of the Cruze died at the scene. Thomas and a woman riding in his SUV suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital. Officers later arrested Thomas on suspicion of vehicular homicide, and he was booked into the Aurora Detention Center.

The coroner’s office will release the victim’s identity once an autopsy is completed and family members are notified. The case remains under investigation.
