KANSAS CITY, MO (September 5, 2026)– A dirt bike rider suffered serious injuries in a crash at 79th and Troost Avenue on Friday evening, according to the Kansas City Police Department.

The crash happened at approximately 7:50 p.m. on September 4.

Responding officers found that a gas-powered mini dirt bike and a Pontiac Vibe had collided at the intersection.

Investigators said a large group of mini dirt bikes had been traveling southbound on Troost Avenue before the collision. Police believe the injured rider was trailing behind the group and struggling to keep up.

According to KCPD, the woman driving the Pontiac was preparing to turn left from Troost Avenue onto 79th Terrace. Police said she waited for the main group of dirt bikes to pass before beginning her turn.

As the Pontiac turned, the trailing dirt bike rider collided with the vehicle.

Emergency personnel transported the dirt bike rider to Research Medical Center with serious injuries.

Authorities did not provide additional information about the rider’s identity or current condition. Police also did not report injuries to the Pontiac driver.
