Big Rig Crash on Highway 152 Kills Gisselle Diaz and Samantha Xiongnhiathao [Madera County, CA]

Madera County, CA (July 20, 2026) — Gisselle Diaz and Samantha Xiongnhiathao lost their lives early Saturday morning after their vehicle crashed into the rear of a disabled semi-truck on Highway 152 in Madera County.

The Madera County Coroner identified the victims as Xiongnhiathao, 50, and Diaz, 17, both of Fresno.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before 2 a.m. on July 18 along eastbound Highway 152 near Road 14 1/2. Investigators said a 32-year-old Fresno man was driving a Freightliner at approximately 15 mph in the No. 2 lane while experiencing engine trouble.

For reasons that remain under investigation, Xiongnhiathao’s black Honda Clarity struck the rear of the semi-truck. Following the collision, the truck driver moved the disabled vehicle onto the shoulder, while the Honda became wedged beneath the trailer.

Emergency responders pronounced Xiongnhiathao and Diaz dead at the scene. CHP continues to investigate the cause of the fatal collision.
