Deadly Crash on Highway 83 Claims Domingo Chavarria’s Life [Lea County, NM]

Lea County, NM (December 5, 2025) — A head-on crash Saturday evening claimed the life of 45-year-old Domingo Chavarria of Lovington.

According to the Lea County Sheriff’s Office, the fatal crash happened around 6:30 p.m. on Highway 83 near South Ponderosa Lane.

Reports say that officers found a black 2004 Ford F-250 positioned sideways across both lanes with severe front-end damage. A black 2015 GMC Yukon, also heavily damaged, was discovered in a ditch on the north side of the roadway.

Chavarria, who was driving the Yukon, died from his injuries at the scene. The sheriff’s traffic division continues to investigate.
