SEATTLE, WA (August 31, 2025) – Friday, a horrific pedestrian crash near 9840 Martin Luther King Jr Way South killed 1 person.

The incident happened when a pedestrian was struck near 9840 Martin Luther King Jr Way South.

A woman in her 30s was struck and killed early Monday after walking across train tracks in Seattle, according to police.

Investigators said she was hit by an SUV, which stopped abruptly and was then rear-ended by a sedan. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Both drivers were evaluated for impairment, but no arrests were made.

The crash shut down all lanes of the roadway and the light rail tracks. Sound Transit suspended 1 Line service between Rainier Beach and Tukwila International Boulevard stations at 5:16 a.m. and warned of delays shortly after.
