Police Investigate Crash Near Grand and 113th Avenues in Sun City

SUN CITY, AZ (September 12, 2026)— An Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper sustained injuries in a crash near Grand and 113th Avenues early Friday morning.

Authorities arrested a 27-year-old man after he allegedly struck an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper with a vehicle during a traffic stop.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the incident began shortly after 1:30 a.m. near Grand Avenue and 113th Avenue.

A state trooper stopped a driver on suspicion of DUI. Authorities said the driver initially stopped but then allegedly drove away, striking the trooper and knocking him to the ground.

Emergency officials said the trooper is expected to recover from his injuries.

Multiple law enforcement agencies joined the search for the driver following the incident.

Deputies with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Buckeye and El Mirage police departments assisted DPS investigators in tracking the suspect to a residence in Youngtown.

DPS SWAT officers later served a search warrant at the Youngtown home and took a 27-year-old man into custody.

Authorities said the suspect suffered serious self-inflicted injuries before his arrest. Emergency responders transported him to a hospital, where officials reported him to be in stable condition.

Authorities had not publicly identified the suspect at the time of the report.

According to officials, the man faces several allegations, including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, failure to comply, and criminal damage.

Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the traffic stop, the alleged collision involving the trooper, and the events that followed.

The charges described in connection with the incident are allegations.

The suspect is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

A vehicle collision can happen within seconds, yet its physical and emotional effects can last far longer.

Our team works with people affected by motor vehicle collisions and other personal injury matters, providing compassionate communication and professional support throughout what can be an overwhelming period.

Collisions involving suspected impaired driving can raise additional questions about how and why an incident occurred.

Investigators may examine vehicle evidence, witness statements, roadway conditions, surveillance footage, and other information as they work to establish the facts.

After a serious collision, injured individuals may benefit from keeping important documentation in one place.

Medical records, photographs, witness contact information, official reports, insurance correspondence, and information about missed work can all help create a clearer record of what occurred and how the injuries have affected everyday life.
