Police Investigate Crash on Cactus Avenue in Moreno Valley
MORENO VALLEY, CA (August 13, 2026) — A motorist suffered minor injuries Thursday after a crash on Cactus Avenue involving a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department patrol vehicle near Riverside University Medical Center.
The crash happened shortly after 11 a.m. at the intersection of Cactus Avenue and Nason Street, less than half a block from the hospital’s main entrance, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Two fire engine crews responded to the scene and found a sheriff’s patrol SUV and a Ford Mustang Mach-E with moderate damage in the middle of the intersection.
Authorities did not immediately release details about what caused the collision or whether the deputy had been responding to an emergency call with lights and siren activated.
The deputy was not injured and exited the patrol vehicle without assistance.
The driver of the Ford, whose identity was not released, was reportedly unable to get out of the vehicle without help. Firefighters assisted the motorist before paramedics transported the individual by ambulance to Riverside University Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
Because a sheriff’s department vehicle was involved, California Highway Patrol officers responded to investigate the collision.
Authorities partially closed the intersection while officers documented the scene and crews arranged to tow the Ford from the roadway. Officials expected the closure to be lifted by approximately 1 p.m.
The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation.
