Frightening Crash on Chandis Way Injures E-Scooter Rider [Indio, CA]

Indio, CA (July 15, 2026) — An electric scooter rider suffered serious injuries Monday evening after a frightening crash on Chandis Way, colliding with an SUV in Indio and becoming trapped beneath the vehicle.

The crash happened shortly after 8:30 p.m. at the intersection with Golf Center Parkway. According to police, the incident involved a Honda CR-V and a person riding an electric scooter.

Firefighters used specialized lifting airbags to raise the SUV and safely free the injured rider. Paramedics then airlifted the victim to a local trauma center for treatment.

Authorities said the driver of the Honda CR-V remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Police temporarily closed the northbound lanes of Golf Center Parkway toward Avenue 44 while investigators documented the crash and gathered evidence. The roadway reopened later that evening.

The Indio Police Department continues to investigate the collision and asks anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam or surveillance footage to contact its Traffic Division or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers.
