Head-On Crash on Colorado Boulevard Sends Two Drivers to Hospital

COMMERCE CITY, CO (August 3, 2026)— A suspected DUI crash on Colorado Boulevard involving a wrong-way driver sent two people to the hospital with serious injuries early Sunday morning.

According to Commerce City police, the head-on collision occurred in the 5500 block of Colorado Boulevard.

Police said both drivers suffered injuries believed to constitute serious bodily injury. Emergency responders transported both individuals to a hospital for treatment.

Investigators suspect impairment may have played a role in the collision. However, authorities have not released details explaining why they believe impairment was involved. Police also have not confirmed whether officers arrested anyone or filed charges in connection with the crash.

Authorities shut down Colorado Boulevard near the crash scene while emergency crews responded and investigators examined the roadway. Officials did not immediately provide an estimated time for reopening the affected portion of the road.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision, including why one of the vehicles was reportedly traveling in the wrong direction.

Head-on crashes can result in particularly severe injuries because vehicles traveling in opposite directions may experience significant combined impact forces.

According to the Federal Highway Administration, head-on collisions represent the most harmful event in approximately 14% of annual traffic fatalities in the United States.

Additional information may become available as Commerce City police continue their investigation.

Injured in a Suspected DUI or Wrong-Way Crash?

A serious head-on collision can leave injured drivers and their families facing an uncertain and difficult recovery.

Hospital treatment, rehabilitation, time away from work, vehicle damage, and ongoing medical needs can create significant physical, emotional, and financial pressure.

When authorities also suspect an impaired or wrong-way driver, those affected may be left with even more questions about how the crash occurred and what happens next.

At Sweet Lawyers, we understand how disruptive a serious traffic accident can be. Our team is committed to helping injured individuals and their families obtain clear information while treating every person with compassion, respect, and personal attention.

Crashes involving suspected impairment may require investigators to examine numerous factors. Police may review witness statements, roadway evidence, vehicle damage, available surveillance or traffic-camera footage, toxicology information, and other records as they determine what contributed to the collision.

Wrong-way crashes may also involve questions about roadway signs, lighting conditions, driver behavior, and the route each vehicle traveled before impact.

For injured people, documenting the aftermath of a collision can also become important. Medical records, police reports, photographs, insurance information, witness details, and records of expenses or missed work may help provide a fuller picture of the accident and its consequences.

Every situation is different, and the appropriate next steps depend on the specific circumstances involved.

Sweet Lawyers assists individuals and families affected by serious motor vehicle collisions, including crashes involving suspected impaired drivers.

We strive to provide responsive communication and compassionate support so clients can better understand the process while focusing on their health and recovery.
