Two Hospitalized With Serious Injuries After Midday Crash in National City
National City, CA (February 16, 2026) — On Friday morning, 2 people suffered serious injuries following a two-vehicle crash on East Plaza Boulevard in National City.
According to authorities, the collision occurred around 11:20 a.m. near East Plaza Boulevard and Grove Street.
Police closed the intersection as emergency crews responded and traffic quickly backed up throughout the area. One of the vehicles involved carried three occupants, and two passengers were transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
Authorities also shut down the Plaza Boulevard off-ramp from northbound Interstate 805, along with additional ramps in both directions, as crews worked the scene and investigated the cause of the crash. Officials urged drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes while closures remained in place.
Keep Our Highways Safe
Traffic collisions can happen anytime, but their impact lasts a lifetime. Stay alert, avoid distractions, and never drive under the influence. Always wear your seatbelt, obey speed limits, and be mindful of pedestrians and cyclists. Keep a safe distance between vehicles and adjust your speed for road conditions.
Serious crashes can happen in seconds, especially at busy intersections. Drivers should slow down, stay alert, and follow posted detours to help protect themselves, passengers, and emergency responders on the roadway.
