Hit-and-Run Crash on Eight Mile Road Kills Cyclist and Dogs [San Joaquin County, CA]

San Joaquin County, CA (June 29, 2025) — On Saturday morning, a bicyclist and two dogs lost their lives in a suspected hit-and-run crash on Eight Mile Road near Shumway Oak Grove Regional Park in San Joaquin County.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded around 10:18 a.m. after receiving reports of a person down in the roadway. At the scene, they found the bicyclist deceased. Investigators said the victim had been towing a shopping cart with two dogs, which also died in the collision.

Authorities believe a westbound vehicle struck the bicyclist several hours before the body was discovered. The medical examiner estimated the victim had been deceased for approximately four to 12 hours.

CHP is searching for a suspect vehicle believed to be either a silver or light gray SUV or a Ford truck with significant damage to the right front. Investigators believe the vehicle may have been seen in the Spanos Park West area near Scott’s Creek Drive.
