Police Investigate Bicycle Crash on Fairview Avenue in Goleta

Goleta, CA (November 9, 2023) – On Wednesday afternoon, a Goleta Valley Jr High (GVJH) student sustained injuries in a crash on Fairview Avenue.

Reportedly at 3:07 p.m. on Wednesday, near the intersection of N. Fairview Ave. and Berkley Rd, a Goleta Valley Jr High (GVJH) student and his friend were riding their bikes on Berkley Rd, as the traffic signal turned green in their favor.

While turning left toward South Fairview, a white Honda Civic traveling west failed to notice the pair of bicyclists and collided with one of them. The impacted cyclist was propelled onto the hood and subsequently rolled off, continuing to glide on the asphalt.

Both knees and ankles of the male juvenile, in addition to other leg scratches, were visibly affected. The bicycle suffered a broken fender, and its front light was detached.

First responders promptly attended to the immediate scratches and wounds of the young cyclist. Family members soon arrived and were advised to transport the child to Cottage Hospital for further evaluation.

Despite the incident, the young victim did not perceive any head injuries, although the visor on his helmet was broken off.
