Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Fannin Street in Houston

HOUSTON, TX (September 11, 2026)— A 72-year-old woman died in a crash on Fannin Street on Friday after a vehicle struck her while she was crossing near the Texas Medical Center, according to the Houston Police Department.

The fatal pedestrian collision occurred at approximately 4:40 a.m. in the 7300 block of Fannin Street.

Police said the woman was walking through a crosswalk while using a walker when a westbound white Nissan Altima struck her.

Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and transported the woman to a nearby hospital. Despite medical efforts, she was later pronounced dead.

Authorities have not yet publicly identified the victim. Officials said her identity remains pending confirmation by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The 32-year-old driver of the Nissan remained at the scene following the collision. Police reported that the driver showed no apparent signs of intoxication. Investigators questioned the motorist before releasing the driver.

After consulting with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, investigators determined that the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash would be presented to a Harris County grand jury.

Authorities have not announced any criminal charges at this time.

Houston police continue to investigate the collision and the events that led to the woman being struck in the crosswalk.

Sweet Lawyers extends our heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of the deceased. May the bereaved find solace and strength in this extremely trying time.

Sweet Lawyers Supports Families After Fatal Pedestrian Accidents

When a loved one is killed while simply crossing the street, families deserve compassionate support, clear information, and a careful review of the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

The sudden loss of a loved one in a pedestrian collision can be devastating. Families may have little time to prepare for the emotional, practical, and financial consequences that follow.

When the victim is an older adult or someone using a mobility aid, the circumstances can be particularly heartbreaking for relatives who are left searching for answers.

At Sweet Lawyers, we understand that a fatal pedestrian accident affects far more than one moment on the roadway.

Families may face funeral and burial expenses, loss of companionship, emotional trauma, and uncertainty about what happens next while authorities continue their investigation.

Pedestrian crashes involving crosswalks may require a detailed review of several factors.

Investigators may examine traffic signals, visibility, lighting conditions, vehicle speed, roadway markings, surveillance footage, witness statements, and the movements of both the pedestrian and motorist.

When a case is referred to a grand jury, that process may also raise questions for surviving family members about how criminal proceedings differ from potential civil matters.

A criminal investigation and a civil wrongful death matter are separate processes with different purposes and legal standards.

The fact that a driver remains at the scene or is not immediately charged does not, by itself, resolve every question surrounding a fatal collision. Each situation depends on the available evidence and applicable law.

Families may find it helpful to preserve police reports, photographs, witness information, medical records, funeral expenses, insurance communications, and any other documentation connected to the crash.

Keeping these materials organized can help provide a clearer picture of the incident as additional information becomes available.

Sweet Lawyers assists families affected by devastating pedestrian and motor vehicle accidents.

Our team focuses on compassion, respectful communication, and helping families better understand the general processes that may follow a wrongful death.

No legal process can replace a loved one. However, having experienced support can help families navigate difficult questions while they focus on grieving, honoring their loved one, and caring for one another.

If your family has lost someone in a fatal pedestrian collision, learn more about the resources and support available through Sweet Lawyers.

Sweet Lawyers is committed to treating every grieving family with dignity, patience, and care during an extraordinarily difficult time.
