Driver and 6-Year-Old Boy Injured in Two-Vehicle Collision at Richland Interchange

Richland, WA (July 9, 2026) — A two-vehicle crash on George Washington Way on Monday morning left a driver and a 6-year-old boy injured, while authorities continue investigating the incident and prepare possible criminal charges.

Emergency crews responded around 11:09 a.m. on July 6 to the intersection of George Washington Way and Interstate 182. Investigators determined that a construction vehicle towing a trailer carrying a mini excavator collided with another vehicle traveling in the same direction.

The impact seriously injured the driver of the passenger vehicle. The driver’s 6-year-old son also sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Both were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The construction vehicle’s driver was not injured.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the construction vehicle was traveling west on State Route 240 and attempted to reach the George Washington Way exit by crossing the gravel area between the highway and the exit ramp. The vehicle then struck the driver’s side of the other vehicle, forcing it off the roadway.

Investigators determined the construction vehicle failed to yield to traffic. Authorities identified the driver as a 37-year-old man from Burbank, Washington, and said criminal charges are pending as the investigation continues.
