Cuesta Grade, CA (April 9, 2026) – A crash on Highway 101 involving a military vehicle and a semi-truck slowed traffic and blocked a lane on the Cuesta Grade on Thursday afternoon.

According to the California Highway Patrol incident page, the collision was reported at 2:34 p.m. on April 9, 2026, on southbound Highway 101 near TV Tower Road. 

A reporting party told CHP that a Humvee was facing the wrong direction in the right lane and that a red semi-truck had gone through a guardrail and onto an embankment along the side of the highway.

Emergency crews responded quickly. An ambulance was dispatched to the scene by 2:36 p.m., and officials requested a tow truck soon after. By 2:41 p.m., authorities had blocked the No. 3 lane on Highway 101 so responders could manage the crash site.

Cal Fire San Luis Obispo said the lane was expected to remain closed until at least 6:30 p.m.

The CHP incident page indicated that the crash resulted in minor injuries, though one patient was taken to Adventist Health Sierra Vista hospital in San Luis Obispo for treatment.

The collision also caused a traffic backup beginning near TV Tower Road on the Cuesta Grade, according to Caltrans QuickMap.
