Frightening Crash on Highway 199 Under Investigation [Crescent City, CA]

Crescent City, CA (November 27, 2025) — On Tuesday afternoon, a crash on Highway 199 saw an SUV go off an embankment, leaving at least one person with major injuries.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported around 2:24 p.m. near Kings Valley Road after drivers noticed a vehicle down an embankment.

Responders located the SUV roughly 75 to 100 feet below the roadway with all four tires blown. Fire crews reached the vehicle within minutes and found an occupant still inside and trying to get out.

CHP later classified the incident as a major-injury crash and requested a heavy wrecker due to the SUV’s position down the steep slope. Multiple fire, medical, and law enforcement units worked at the scene throughout the afternoon.

Officials have not released details about how the SUV left the roadway, how many people were involved, or the current condition of the injured occupant. The investigation is ongoing.
