Three Killed in Fiery Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 99 in Bakersfield

Bakersfield, CA (August 19, 2026) — Three people died, and three others suffered injuries early Sunday after a fiery three-vehicle crash on Highway 99 near 7th Standard Road in Bakersfield.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the collision around 12:44 a.m. The crash involved a 2022 Honda Accord, a 2019 BMW 530i, and a 2022 Chevrolet Colorado.

Investigators are still determining which vehicle traveled the wrong way on the highway. The Honda caught fire after the collision, killing all three occupants.

The BMW’s 44-year-old driver suffered severe injuries, while the two occupants of the Chevrolet sustained minor injuries. Authorities transported the injured victims for medical treatment.

CHP briefly closed the southbound lanes and diverted traffic while crews worked at the scene. Investigators have not determined whether alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash.
