Frightening Crash on Interstate 35 Injures Officer [Austin, TX]

Austin Police Officer Injured in Chain-Reaction Crashes on I-35

Austin, TX (June 15, 2025) — Early Sunday morning, an Austin police officer suffered minor to moderate injuries after a frightening crash on Interstate 35 in north Austin.

Authorities said the first crash happened near I-35 and Parmer Lane shortly before 5:30 a.m. when a large truck struck a concrete barrier, causing debris and roadway hazards that affected traffic.

The incident led to a second crash near I-35 and Howard Lane, where an Austin police officer was injured and transported to a hospital.

Officials reported no serious injuries in either crash.

Both directions of I-35 at Parmer Lane and Howard Lane remained closed for several hours while crews worked to clear the roadway and investigate the incidents. The Texas Department of Transportation later removed the debris, and all lanes reopened shortly after 10:30 a.m.

Authorities continue to review the circumstances surrounding the crashes.

Let Us Be Mindful of Others on the Road

When we drive, we are all part of a larger community of people who share the road. We owe it to each other to drive responsibly, be alert, and respect the rights of others. Safe driving doesn’t just protect you—it protects your family, your neighbors, and even strangers on the road.

Together, we can reduce the number of traffic collisions and make our roads safer for everyone. Let’s drive with care, stay aware, and take responsibility for our actions.

Road hazards and secondary crashes can develop quickly after an initial collision. Drivers should reduce speed, remain alert near crash scenes, and follow traffic control measures to help prevent additional injuries and keep emergency responders safe.
