Hit-and-Run Crash on Interstate 5 Kills Pedestrian

Pedestrian Killed in Early Morning Hit-and-Run Along I-5 Near French Camp Road

Stockton, CA (April 18, 2026) — Early Thursday morning, a pedestrian pushing a shopping cart lost their life in a tragic hit-and-run crash on Interstate 5 near French Camp Road.

The incident happened around 4:35 a.m. on April 16 in the northbound lanes of I-5. Authorities reported that the pedestrian was in the roadway between two lanes when a passing vehicle struck them and continued without stopping.

Investigators believe additional vehicles may have also hit the victim after the initial impact, worsening the severity of the injuries. The pedestrian died at the scene.

Responding officers temporarily shut down northbound lanes for about 90 minutes while they examined the crash site. Traffic has since resumed, but the investigation remains active as officials work to identify the driver involved.

Authorities have not released any information about the suspect vehicle.
