Police Investigate Crash on Locust Avenue Near Bixby Road

LONG BEACH, CA (September 29, 2026) — A man in a wheelchair suffered critical injuries after a pickup truck struck him in a crash on Locust Avenue Monday night in Long Beach, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Officers responded to the 3700 block of Locust Avenue near Bixby Road at approximately 9:40 p.m. after receiving reports of an injury traffic collision.

According to police, the man was crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk when a southbound pickup truck struck him.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the injured man to a hospital. Police said he remained in critical but stable condition.

The pickup truck driver stopped at the scene as required and cooperated with investigators, according to LBPD.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision, including the events leading up to the impact.

The crash occurred approximately 10 days after another wheelchair user died in a separate Long Beach hit-and-run collision. On Sept. 18, a 64-year-old man in a wheelchair suffered fatal injuries after a vehicle struck him.

Police later arrested a 23-year-old driver several blocks from that crash scene and booked the individual on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter.

According to police, impaired driving and distracted driving did not appear to contribute to either collision.
