Driver Dies, Three Injured After SUV Crashes Into Pole in North St. Louis County

St. Louis County, MO (August 20, 2026) — A 36-year-old man died, and three passengers suffered injuries after a horrific crash on Maywood Avenue where an SUV crashed into an electrical pole early Tuesday morning in North St. Louis County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 1:16 a.m. at Lucas-Hunt Road and Maywood Avenue. Investigators determined the SUV was traveling south on Lucas-Hunt at a high rate of speed before crossing the center line, leaving the roadway, and hitting the utility pole.

The driver died at the scene. A 21-year-old woman suffered serious injuries, while a 30-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman sustained moderate injuries. None of the occupants wore seat belts.

The crash also caused widespread power outages, affecting about 3,000 customers south of Interstate 70 as crews worked to restore service.
