Several Los Angeles County Deputies Injured After DUI Pursuit Ends in Downtown Crash

Los Angeles, CA (June 29, 2025) — On Saturday night, several Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies were injured after a vehicle pursuit involving a suspected impaired driver ended in a crash on Olympic Boulevard in downtown Los Angeles.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, deputies began chasing a driver suspected of reckless DUI in East Los Angeles. The pursuit continued into downtown, where it ended near the intersection of Olympic Boulevard and Los Angeles Street.

A sheriff’s patrol vehicle crashed into a utility pole during the incident. Authorities confirmed that multiple deputies were hurt but have not released details about the extent of their injuries.

Officials have not confirmed whether the suspect was taken into custody. The incident remains under investigation.

The California Office of Traffic Safety’s “Go Safely” campaign reminds everyone that driving under the influence (DUI) doesn’t just refer to alcohol. A DUI can involve any substance—including marijuana, prescription medication, over-the-counter drugs, or illegal substances—that affects your ability to drive safely. Even when taken legally, some medications can slow your reflexes, impair judgment, or make you drowsy behind the wheel.

Every driver has a role to play in preventing tragedies. Despite public awareness efforts, reckless and impaired driving continues to claim lives. In California alone, someone loses their life in a traffic crash every few hours—a heartbreaking reminder of how critical road safety truly is.

Remember, sharing the road means sharing responsibility. Stay alert, respect other drivers, and watch out for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists. A moment of care can save a life—perhaps even your own.

Impaired driving and high-speed pursuits can put law enforcement officers, motorists, and pedestrians at serious risk. Never drive under the influence, and always follow officers’ instructions during emergencies.

File a Personal Injury Claim in Case of Vehicle Crash

A personal injury claim following a traffic collision is a legal process that allows an injured party to seek compensation for physical, emotional, and financial harm caused by the accident. These claims arise when a driver’s negligence, recklessness, or intentional actions lead to an accident resulting in injuries.

The first step in pursuing a personal injury claim is to establish fault. This normally involved gathering evidence such as police reports, witness statements, traffic camera footage, and photographs of the accident scene. A skilled attorney from Sweet Lawyers can help establish who was responsible for the accident, which is indeed, necessary for determining liability.

Once fault is established, the injured party can then pursue compensation for damages which may include but are not limited to medical expenses, lost wages, property damage, and pain and suffering. Consequently, medical documentation and expert testimony are essential for proving the extent of the injuries and their impact on the victim’s life.

Meanwhile, it’s important to note that the statute of limitations, or the time frame within which a personal injury claim must be filed, varies by state. Meaning if a claim is not filed within this window, the victim and the family of the victim may lose the right to seek compensation.

A personal injury claim in case of a traffic collision can be complex, but it offers an essential avenue that helps the victims to recover damages and hold negligent drivers accountable.
