2 People Hospitalized after Solo Vehicle Crash on Vista Oaks Drive in Martinez

Martinez, CA (November 9, 2023) – Early Sunday morning, two high school students were seriously injured and a person was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after a solo vehicle crash on Vista Oaks Drive.

Around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, police apprehended the 18-year-old driver in the 3400 block of Vista Oaks Drive after he had fled the scene of the wreck on Pine Street.

 Authorities stated that they arrested him on suspicion of hit-and-run resulting in death or injury, DUI causing bodily injury, and driving with a blood-alcohol level of .08 or greater.

The crash occurred approximately at 12:15 a.m., with the gray car’s driver veering off Pine Street and colliding with a tree. At least one individual was observed running away from the crash, and subsequent investigations revealed that the driver had fled.

Both passengers in the vehicle were anticipated to survive, although one remained hospitalized on Thursday. 

As of Thursday, the driver was not in custody, as reported by the county’s jail inmate locator.

Further investigation to determine the circumstances of this crash is ongoing.
