Hit-and-Run Crash on Wardrobe Avenue West Injures 17-Year-Old Boy [Merced, CA]

Merced, CA (April 11, 2026) — On Friday evening, a 17-year-old boy suffered major injuries after a hit-and-run crash on Wardrobe Avenue involving a vehicle while riding a minibike.

The collision happened around 8 p.m. on April 3 along Wardrobe Avenue west of Thornton Road. Authorities responded to the scene and found the teen badly hurt after being struck while attempting to cross the roadway.

Investigators said the teen was riding a minibike without a headlight at night when a dark-colored Toyota bZ4X traveling westbound hit him. The force of the crash threw the teen from the minibike, leaving him with serious injuries. He was later reported to be in stable condition.

The driver did not stop and fled the scene. Officials described the vehicle as a dark-colored 2023 or newer Toyota bZ4X with damage to its front left side.

Authorities continue to search for the driver involved.
