OAKLAND, CA (May 4, 2026) – Early Saturday morning, a crippling pedestrian crash near 18th Street and Telegraph Avenue injured 8 people.

The incident happened at 1:30 a.m. near 18th Street and Telegraph Avenue.

Police said officers were initially responding to reports of fights near 18th Street and Telegraph Avenue when they received a call about a vehicle driving onto the sidewalk and striking pedestrians in the 500 block of 18th Street around 1:30 a.m.

The Oakland Police Department said five adults and one juvenile were taken to the hospital and listed in stable condition. Another adult was taken to the hospital privately and was also in stable condition.

The Oakland Fire Department later confirmed a total of eight people were injured, with one treated and released at the scene. Battalion Chief Anthony Sanders described the situation as chaotic due to the number of victims and uncertainty at the scene.

Police said two people were arrested after running from the area, and firearms were recovered from them. However, the driver had already fled the scene.
