Injuries Reported in Lake Tahoe Pedestrian Accident on Highway 50 and Johnson Pass

LAKE TAHOE, CA (February 18, 2026) – Monday afternoon, a crippling pedestrian crash on Highway 50 and Johnson Pass injured 3 people.

The incident occurred at around 12:45 p.m. on a Highway 50 turnout, east of Johnson Pass.

According to the CHP, two men had approached a Kia driver who was stopped on the side of the road and offered to help him with his tire chain.

CHP said the three men were standing near the left front tire of a Kia when they were struck by an out-of-control Chevrolet Silverado.

According to the collision report, the Silverado’s driver was traveling westbound on snow-covered roads when he lost control and crossed into the eastbound lane.

One of the men was thrown about 40 feet and landed behind the Kia on the right shoulder. The other two were dragged by the truck and had to be pulled to safety by bystanders and Caltrans crews.

All three were taken to Barton Memorial Hospital with major injuries. CHP identified them as two 23-year-olds from Concord and San Jose, and a 22-year-old from San Leandro.
The Silverado’s driver, a 21-year-old man from Sacramento, and his 17-year-old passenger, also from Sacramento, suffered minor injuries.

Investigators said alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash.
