CHP Officer Airlifted after Crippling Semi-Truck Crash on Highway 59 and Turlock Avenue [Merced County, CA]

Injuries Reported in Merced County Auto Accident on Highway 59 and Turlock Avenue

MERCED COUNTY, CA (August 6, 2026) – Wednesday morning, a CHP officer was airlifted after a crippling semi-truck crash on Highway 59 and Turlock Avenue.

The incident happened just before 7:30 a.m. on Highway 59 and Turlock Avenue, when a CHP patrol vehicle travelled through the intersection where it crashed with a semi-truck.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a patrol vehicle was struck by a semi-truck during a U-turn on Highway 59.

Investigators said the CHP officer was traveling southbound and attempting to make a U-turn into the northbound lanes when the patrol vehicle was struck on the side by an oncoming semi-truck traveling northbound.

Firefighters from the Merced County Fire Department extricated the officer from the patrol vehicle before he was airlifted to a local hospital. His condition has not been released.

The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
