Injuries Reported in Kansas City Auto Accident on 71 Highway and Interstate 435

KANSAS CITY, MO (May 28, 2026) – Wednesday morning, a passenger was critically injured in a crippling single-vehicle crash on 71 Highway and Interstate 435.

The incident happened just after 4:00 a.m. on 71 Highway and Interstate 435, near the Interstate 470 split.

A preliminary investigation by the Kansas City Police Department found that a black Infiniti was traveling southbound on Interstate 435 at a high rate of speed when the driver failed to negotiate a curve near the Interstate 470 split.

Police said the Infiniti then crashed into a concrete support pillar for an overhead highway sign.

Both the driver and passenger were transported to a local hospital with injuries. Authorities said the passenger was listed in critical condition.

Investigators also said the driver showed signs of impairment. The crash remains under investigation.
