JOPLIN, MO (April 20, 2026) – Friday noon, a driver was sent to a hospital following a crippling truck accident on Interstate 44 EB near 13 MM.

The crash involving a utility truck and a tractor-trailer on Interstate 44 EB near 13 MM.

Agencies, including Duenweg Fire Department, Joplin Fire Department, Joplin Police Department, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol, responded to the crash near a jurisdictional boundary. Missouri Department of Transportation emergency crews were also notified.

At the scene, a utility truck towing a trailer loaded with mowers rear-ended a tractor-trailer in the eastbound lanes near Exit 13. The impact caused the trailer to detach and break off the rear of the utility truck, which appeared to be dragged a short distance before the semi came to a stop.

Newton County Ambulance District transported the semi driver as a precaution. The utility truck driver remained at the scene.

Comer’s Towing removed the damaged truck and trailer from the right shoulder.

The crash remains under investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
