Injuries Reported in Kearny Mesa Auto Accident on 4400 Mercury Street

KEARNY MESA, CA (May 27, 2024) – Saturday afternoon, an 84-year-old woman suffered injuries in a crippling vehicle crash on 4400 Mercury Street.

The crash happened at 1:53 p.m. in the 4400 block of Mercury Street, said San Diego Police Officer J. Perales.

According to reports, as the woman drove her 2012 Honda Fit northbound in the right lane of Mercury Street, a 31-year-old man driving a vehicle was stopped at the intersection with Balboa Avenue.

Then, the woman failed to stop and collided with him, Perales added. 

As a result, the man’s vehicle was pushed forward and collided with two other vehicles.

“The 84-year-old female suffered a punctured lung, fractured ribs, abrasions, skin tears to both hands, and lacerations from the seat belt,” he said.

Officers confirmed that the injuries were non-life-threatening.

Meanwhile, the passengers from the other vehicles complained of pain, Perales added.

Furthermore, the authorities ruled out alcohol as a factor in the crash.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.

Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
