Cyclist Felix Nava Dies in Frightening FM 16 Crash

Felix Nava Killed in Smith County Hit-and-Run

Smith County, TX (September 4, 2026) — Felix Nava, 48, died after a pickup truck struck him while he was riding his bicycle on Farm to Market Road 16 in Smith County.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said the crash happened around 8:49 p.m. between Toll 49 and County Road 436. The pickup driver hit Nava and fled without stopping or providing aid. Nava died at the scene.

Authorities are searching for a 2018–2019 Ford F-250 or F-350 with significant damage to the front-right side and passenger-side headlamp. The truck should also be missing its passenger-side turn signal. The vehicle’s color remains unknown.

Nava’s family remembered him as a loving father of two and grandfather of two. A passerby reportedly stopped at the scene and prayed with him until first responders arrived, providing some comfort to his loved ones.

DPS continues to investigate and asks anyone with information about the suspect vehicle to contact Tyler DPS Communications at 903-939-6001.
