Police Investigate Fatal hit-And-Run Crash on Franklin Boulevard in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, CA (September 3, 2026)– A 59-year-old woman died after a hit-and-run crash on Franklin Boulevard on Wednesday night.

Reportedly, the driver struck her while she was repairing her bicycle along Franklin Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision happened at approximately 8:59 p.m. north of 48th Avenue.

CHP said the woman had been riding a Schwinn bicycle with an attached trailer northbound along Franklin Boulevard within the southbound shoulder.

Authorities said she stopped and parked the bicycle after experiencing a broken axle. While she was attempting to repair the bike, an unknown vehicle reportedly drifted to the right and struck her.

The driver continued southbound on Franklin Boulevard without stopping, according to CHP.

Emergency responders transported the injured cyclist to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

The victim’s boyfriend witnessed the crash and told investigators that the vehicle appeared to be an older-model pickup truck.

However, CHP officers recovered a right-front wheel well liner and a broken piece of plastic from the crash scene. Investigators said those parts are associated with a 2014-2024 Infiniti Q50.

Authorities have not yet identified or located the driver involved in the fatal collision.

CHP continues to investigate the hit-and-run and is asking anyone with information to contact the South Sacramento CHP office at 916-897-5600.

Sweet Lawyers extends our heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of the deceased. May the bereaved find solace and strength in this extremely trying time.

Losing a loved one in a hit-and-run bicycle crash can be especially painful. Families may be left grieving while also struggling with the knowledge that the driver responsible for the collision has not yet been identified or located.

The uncertainty surrounding an ongoing investigation can add another layer of distress to an already devastating loss.

At Sweet Lawyers, we understand that families affected by fatal bicycle collisions need compassion, clear communication, and respectful support.

A sudden loss can bring emotional hardship, funeral expenses, financial concerns, and difficult questions about what happened and what options may be available.

Hit-and-run investigations often depend on multiple forms of evidence. Authorities may review debris left at the scene, surveillance video, witness statements, traffic camera footage, vehicle damage, roadway evidence, and other records that may help identify the vehicle or driver involved.

In some cases, even a small piece of vehicle debris can provide important information about the make, model, or year range of the suspected vehicle.

Witness accounts can also play an important role. Anyone who saw the crash, noticed a damaged vehicle in the area, or has relevant video footage may be able to provide information that helps investigators reconstruct the incident.

For grieving families, keeping organized records related to the collision can also be helpful. Police reports, medical records, funeral expenses, photographs, insurance correspondence, and other documentation may provide a clearer understanding of the consequences of the loss.
