
Police Investigate Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash on Loop 494 in New Caney
NEW CANEY, TX (June 4, 2026)— An adult male cyclist died after a hit-and-run crash on Loop 494 in New Caney, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
DPS troopers responded around 10:20 a.m. on June 4 near the intersection of Loop 494 and the Grand Parkway in Montgomery County. When they arrived, they found the cyclist dead in a ditch on the northbound side of the roadway.
Investigators said the man had left his nearby home around 9:30 p.m. on June 3. Authorities believe the crash happened later that night.
Preliminary evidence suggests an unknown vehicle was traveling northbound on Loop 494 when it struck the cyclist from behind. The driver then fled the scene.
Officials have not released the victim’s identity. Authorities have also not described the suspected vehicle.
DPS continues to investigate the fatal hit-and-run crash and is asking for the public’s help. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about the vehicle involved is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-392-STOP (7867).
Officials said tips submitted through Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous, and information leading to a felony arrest may qualify for a cash reward.
