Wrong-Way Driver Arrested After Chain-Reaction Crash in Laredo
Laredo, TX (May 5, 2025) — A three-vehicle collision on Highway 83 early Sunday morning left several people with minor injuries after Cynthia Guerrero allegedly traveled the wrong way.
Police said the incident occurred around 2:48 a.m. near U.S. Highway 83 and Highway 359 after multiple callers reported a vehicle heading north in the southbound lanes. Investigators determined that 41-year-old Guerrero driving an SUV collided head-on with a southbound car. The force of the crash pushed that vehicle into another car traveling in the same direction, creating a chain-reaction collision.
Emergency crews treated all individuals involved at the scene for minor injuries.
During the investigation, officers learned the driver had just come from a concert and had left her 12-year-old daughter home alone. Authorities later confirmed the child was by herself at the residence.
Police arrested the driver on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and for abandoning or endangering a child.
Let’s Drive Safer Together
High-speed crashes can occur in the blink of an eye, but so many are preventable with small, intelligent decisions. Pay attention, don’t get distracted (say, by texting) and never drive after drinking. As ever – obey speed limits, buckle up and keep plenty of room between yourself and other vehicles. These are small enough measures to save lives — including your own.
We can all take steps to help keep our roads safe for ourselves, our families and our communities.
Driving under the influence puts everyone at risk, especially during late-night hours when visibility and reaction times are already reduced. Always plan a safe ride home and never leave children unattended in situations that could compromise their safety.
